Ubuntu Hardy Heron and Webcams
I’ve been running Hardy Heron on my F500 laptop for two weeks now and I really like this version. It boots up on my laptop (an issue I had with older versions of Ubuntu) and overall is a rather enjoyable experience. I did experience a few system crashes (due to Avant Window Manager and oddly enough Movie Player.
I am having issues getting either one of my web cams to work with Hardy Heron. I have an older Logitech Quick Cam Messenger and a Samsung SPC A30M. Neither will work under Heron. All I get is a black screen in the program Camorama as well as AMSN and Skype.
When I type in the lsusb command into terminal, it shows that the webcam is being indeed detected by Heron. Both webcams actually.

I don’t know how to get them to work. I would love to use the Samsung webcam especially. The Logitech webcam worked in Ubuntu 7.04 as well as Ubuntu Studio. If anyone can offer me some advice, I would greatly appreciate it! I’m currently stumped.

For the logitech cam, this list should be your first port of call:
